Abay Opera House

The Abay Kazakh State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre is one of Almaty’s most beautiful landmarks and a major cultural center. Opened in 1944, it features neoclassical architecture and hosts performances of opera, ballet, and symphonic music. The theatre is named after Abay Kunanbayev, the great Kazakh poet and philosopher, and remains a symbol of the city’s artistic life.

Opening hours: Box office – Tuesday–Sunday, 10:00 – 19:00. Closed on Mondays.
